Harvest App Reviews

great design but with technical flaws

slick visual design and great usability. Simple and unintrusive. BUT: -doesnt work offline! -if you are not online while you try to remove idle time, Harvest just cant deal with it and adds it to your work quota anyway -have fun remembering how much you have to manually subtract now! -takes up to 10% CPU, which seems insanley high for a background app you have running all the time. without these issues I would rate it 5 stars.

You have to pay

Honestly, I didnt try the app. As soon as I had to subscribe to the 30 day trial I uninstaled it. It shouldve been specified in the AppStore.

Not Free!!!

This should say Free Trial or 30 days Trial. I erased this right away.

Seems like a nice app, its not free though.

Their revenue model is a monthly subscription on their website. You need to create an account and a 30-day "free" trial starts. Im expecting to get lots of spam from them after it expires. They should make it obvious from the description… Im going to rate it low and look for another solution until description is honest. :(

Fantastic addition to a great service

The desktop time tracker is a great addition to an already fantastic service. Being able to manage my tracking from the menu bar in such a quick and beautiful way helps me stay focused on my work. Well worth the price for continued use of such a well designed, efficient, and supported service, and a credit-card-less trial account was much appreciated. This is a huge step above other time tracking services out there! If youre only seeing this app in the store, check out their website for the full feature list.

Search by client name

It would be nice to search by client name and not just by project name.

One year in, still constantly signing out

This app would be great, were it not that it constantly loses it’s authentication tokens. How likely would *you* be to log your time properly if you had to type in a domain, login and password? Disappointing. Great service on the web, horrible app. Note: You can resolve this for a few days by deleting Harvest data in the Application Support folder, but this is not quite better than having to constantly sign in.

Cul-de-sac

I didn’t know I had to register first. I openned the app and it asked for my email and password. It didn’t say it was for logging in so I assumed it was the sign-up process. Then it said the credentials are incorrect. From there on, I could not exit the app or go further in. It was a cul-de-sac. Also, the App is not free! You have to pay MONTHLY! Don’t get tricked into downloading it.

Very useful but leaks memory

I really like the Harvest Mac app. I’ve figured out a workflow with it that makes time tracking _almost_ painless (I say almost because I don’t know that time tracking will ever be completely painless) :-) The biggest problem I have with it though is that it has a terrible memory leak. Often if I let the app run overnight (unused) it will be using more than 2 GB of memory. I reported this bug originally in Feb 2014 when I noted that it was using over 8 GB of memory, and then one other time after that. The original response I got was that the devs had found the leak and were fixing it. The fix is supposed to be in the next release but there hasn’t been a release since Dec 2013. To be honest this app seems abandoned by Harvest. I want to like this app, but the memory leak means I have to take two stars off the rating!

Only free for 30 days, then you have to subscribe

I was looking forward to using this app... until I found out that I have to pay a minimum of $12 PRE MONTH to use it after the initial free 30 day trial period.

You can’t fill your timesheet with it

You can’t fill your timesheet with it. What’s the point?!?

Problems when Internet connection is not stable

The widget is really cool but when Internet connection is not stable it doesnt notify me about that. The timer is still running and I even can start a new one, but then its not saved remotely. When you are finishing the work you also be watchful because if you stop the timer in the widget it sometimes doesnt stop it remotely. Apart from those issues the widget works well and it has really good user experiance.

It is not free as it requires user account to work

Of course the application is free but to use it you need to have an account on Harvest cloud which is not free except to trial period. Not nice. I think it is waist of efford. Good product, but without proper description and warning that it is not really free to use its functions. I am disapointed.

Does Not Search

The website is great. You can type in text and it will start searching. The app does not. Not efficient.

Update doesnt work

Until I tried to update to this newest version, my Harvest app worked great. Now, it wont even open. Please fix ASAP!

Dont use!!!

It took 4 trips to the Apple store and leaving my computer for nearly 4 weeks total before the Apple Genius figured out it was the Harvest app causing problems on my computer. It has a flaw that at times it uses excessive cpu and steals memory from other apps, it basically locks up your computer and you cant do anything but do a hard restart. I recommend that you dont use the app and just use the online tool. Harvest is great for tracking time but the app has serious flaws.

Does not sync anymore

This app used to work great, but over the last month or so, its just been broken. When I try to start timing a project, half of the time it cant find the project Im looking for, and about 98% of the time it doesnt actually start the tracking. It seems to pick up and track timers I start from the web app, and if I stop it from the desktop app, it seems to sync properly most of the time. I mainly just keep it running now for the idle warnings, and end up just having to keep the web app open for everything else. Im really hoping a fix comes out soon to fix this, because this app was fantastic before.

Great when the app actually works

Ive been a longtime user of Harvest and was ecstatic when I was able to switch over from FreshBooks. Unfortunately, the desktop application hasnt been functioning at all for me recently, which is kind of important when I need to track the hours I spend as a developer. The app always has a status indicator at the bottom saying "Network Offline" which is fairly frustrating. On the off chance that Im able to start a timer, chances are I wont be able to stop it without signing into the website and manually stopping it. Im giving a 1-star rating until this app is usable again.

Horrible!

Very glitchy. They cannot seem to get it to work right. It seems like there is always some new problem. It will not pull up saved projects half the time. It will not save entires made, which is very frustrating to realize it has not been keeping track of your time after you hit start! I can only imagine that Harvest does not actually test this software beacause it constantly has problems. Spend your money with a different time keeping software.

Awful

Does not let you create any projects, just highlits the input with red outline.
